In just over four decades, WWF has become one of the world's largest and most respected independent conservation organizations. WWF has a global network active in over 90 countries. The International Ocean Institute is a N.G.O. with consultative status at the United Nations. It is devoted to the sustainable development of the oceans and operates through the activities of its Headquarters residing in Malta and Operational Centres located in 23 countries around the world.

Reef Check

Reef Check is a volunteer, ocean conservation organization designed to save coral reefs globally. Reef Check is active in over 82 countries and territories throughout the world. and works with communities, governments and businesses to scientifically monitor, restore and maintain coral reef health.

REEF

REEF's mission, to educate and enlist divers in the conservation of marine habitats, is accomplished primarily through its Fish Survey Project. The project allows voluntees to collect and report information on marine fish populations. Participants in the Project not only learn about the environment they are diving in, but they also produce valuable scientific information which are used by a variety of resource agencies and researchers.

Coral Reef Alliance

The Coral Reef Alliance is a N.G.O dedicated to keeping coral reefs alive by integrating ecosystem management, sustainable tourism, and community partnerships. The goal is to increase the capacity of marine recreation providers, reef managers, and local communities to work collaboratively towards effective and financially sustainable coral conservation.

University of Geneva

The Molecular Systematics Group (MSG) is a team of researchers exploring the diversity and evolutionary history of different groups of protists and animals by using molecular techniques. The MSG collaborates closely with Geneva Museum of Natural History.

Shark Foundation

The Shark Foundation is actively supporting the protection and preservation of endangered shark species and their natural surroundings. The Shark Foundation supports projects such as shark identification and the migration of various speices of sharks. www.shark.ch

 

 

Manta Network

The Manta Network is a non-profit organization focused on the conservation and protection of manta and mobula rays worldwide. The Worldwide Manta Sightings, Manta Global Database and Manta Research Affiliates programs combine to create a centralized global repository of information about mantas. Scientific projects aim to understand manta populations, animal behavior, habitat preferences, residency patterns and their long-range migration behavior.

Project seahorse

Project Seahorse is an interdisciplinary and international organization committed to conservation and sustainable use of the world’s coastal marine ecosystems. Project Seahorse uses seahorses to focus its efforts in finding marine conservation solutions. Research themes are ranging from Biology and Ecology of seahorses to Seahorse genetics and seahorse aquaculture.

Museum of natural history, Geneva

Ocean care

Ocean Care is a non-profit organization with headquarters in Wädenswil/Switzerland. It was founded in 1989 and aims at achieving freedom, well being and survival for marine mammals worldwide. It has a strong commitment to realistic and cooperative initiatives. Efforts focus on building public awareness and offering credible resources for Governmental issues. On the basis of these principles, the association works at national and international level in the areas of whaling, industrial fishing, environmental changes, seal hunting and dolphin captivity.

Swiss Cetacean Society

The Swiss Cetacean Society-SCS is a non-profit organisation devoted to the preservation of marine mammals in their natural habitat. The SCS organises programs to acquire information on cetacean populations in the Mediterranean and in the Canadian Pacific. Data collection from research platforms (ocean sailing yachts) is supervised by specialised naturalists and then forwarded to the mandated scientists who assure its treatment and use.

Society for Dolphin Conservation

Gesellschaft zur Rettung der Delphine (GRD) is a German non-profit organization. GRD's main goal is to protect wild dolphins and whales and conserve their habitats. One of GRD most important objectives is to achieve a ban of ecologically unacceptable fishing practices, such as driftnets. It supports dolphin conservation projects with local partners in Peru, Croatia, Mozambique and the Canary Islands.

Yaqua Pacha is an non profit organization working for the conservation of South American aquatic mammals. The aim of the organization is to protect these mammal species and their habitat. Yaqua Pacha works together with local biologists and institutions.

 

 

Deepwave

DEEPWAVE, the initiative for the protection of the high and deep sea, is a German N.G.O. The main goal of the initiative is to contribute to the development and promotion of environmentally compatible structures for the ecological systems of the high and deep sea.

Sibyline

This organization plans to set-up a rehabilitation center for marine mammals in France. Its main objectives are to : heal stranded marine mammals (birds and cetaceans), conduct fundamental and clinical research, education, including pedagogy and training to promote respect, conservation and protection of the marine environment.
